Tukiya is a sister, a daughter, a friend, and a Christian woman that is exploring the nexus between health, climate change, and community. She is a health policy researcher with experience working across international government affairs, UK NHS, development and private sector. She is in the process of launching a startup focused on sustainably made lingerie and basics, with the aspiration of becoming a B Corporation-certified business balancing purpose and profit. Tukiya is passionate about building resilient communities, climate change and young people. She loves children and has many younger brothers and sisters. She is also a Trustee of The Desmond Tutu Foundation, a charity promoting peace and reconciliation in the UK and around the globe and she is also a school wellbeing governor. Tukiya has worked on advancing universal health coverage across 54 countries and worked on projects for vulnerable groups such as youth, women and girls. Tukiya gained her Master’s Degree in International Health Policy and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences in 2018, and her bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology from the University of Hertfordshire in 2014. Her Master’s thesis focused on public health approaches to youth violence. She has worked as a volunteer youth worker, working with young people from across London in various capacities, including teaching life skills in maximum-security prisons to supporting young people to access higher education through 2020 Change UK.
